Organization Efforts

Benet Hill Monastery

  • Recycles all plastic, glass, and aluminum
  • Uses low-flush toilets
  • Uses only Energy Star appliances.

Pikes Peak Community College

  • Uses swamp coolers in three of four kitchens
  • Recycles paper
  • Composts all edible scrap
  • Supplements produce from garden
  • Eliminates bottled water in faculty offices
  • Uses motion lights in the bakeshop
  • Uses energy efficient kitchen hoods
  • Removed battery-operated paper towel dispensers
  • Uses reusable containers
  • Turns off oven and equipment when not in use
  • Uses extra products in other recipes
  • Uses to-go boxes made from sugar cane
  • Eliminates all Styrofoam cups and containers.

Sinton Dairy

  • Uses only energy efficient light bulbs in the office and plant
  • Reduces water usage by 1 million gallons per year
  • Uses recycle bins throughout the office
  • Reduces truck idling at stops
  • Works with Colorado Springs Utilities to reduce discharged waste water.

Springs Rescue Mission

  • Assists with community garden.

Heidi Block

  • Recycles everything possible
  • Limits personal shower time
  • Raises 9 chickens for eggs to consume and trade
  • Grows herbs and vegetables and composts
  • Donates reusable items to charity, including cars
  • Helps with community gardens
  • Carpools when possible
  • Buys as many organic and local products as possible
  • Works to implement a sustainability program at PPCC
  • Meets with people in Colorado to understand more about sustainability along the Front Range.

  • Uses energy efficient light bulbs
  • Recycles.

Deann Pujol

  • Recycles paper, plastic, newspaper, glass, and aluminum
  • Uses eco-friendly cleaners
  • Owns hybrid car and car that gets 30 miles per gallon
  • Uses CFL bulbs
  • Uses only Energy Star appliances
  • Composts most edible items
  • Has energy efficient windows
  • Uses reusable bags at the grocery store and reuses plastic bags
  • Uses recycled paper products.
